ERE Property Group Takes on the Yorkshire Two Peaks for Martin House Children’s Hospice
At ERE Property Group, we’re always looking for ways to go further together and this October, that means literally. Our team will be lacing up our boots and taking on the Yorkshire Two Peaks Challenge in support of Martin House Children’s Hospice, a charity that provides vital care and support to children and young people with life-limiting conditions, as well as their families, across Yorkshire.
Why We’re Walking
Martin House is more than just a hospice. Based in Boston Spa, it has been a lifeline for families since 1987. Each year, it supports over 440 children and young people, along with 160 families who receive specialist bereavement support.
The hospice offers:
– 15 bedrooms for children and young people across Martin House and Whitby Lodge
– 10 family bedrooms, so parents and siblings can stay close
– Fully accessible facilities, including art therapy, a sensory suite, and a state-of-the-art multimedia room
– Beautiful gardens with play areas, walkways, and quiet spaces for reflection
But running these services costs almost £9 million a year, most of which comes from fundraising and donations. Without the generosity of supporters, Martin House simply wouldn’t be able to provide 24/7 care, symptom control, respite breaks, or the space for families to spend precious time together.
Supporting Something Bigger: A New Teenage Wing
As part of a major redevelopment project, Martin House is creating a dedicated Teenage Wing, a space designed specifically for young people facing incredibly difficult circumstances. It will sit alongside their Children’s, Wellbeing, and Education Wings, forming part of a wider vision to transform the hospice for the future.
What makes the Teenage Wing truly special is that it’s been designed by the teenagers who use the hospice themselves. Their insights and ideas have shaped a space that prioritises dignity, independence, and creativity, a place that doesn’t feel like a hospital, but a home away from home.
The new Teenage Wing will include:
- Teenage bedrooms and ensuites
- A high-spec recording studio.
- A gaming zone
- An interactive den
- A newly landscaped garden
- An improved car park
As a property company, we know the importance of having a space that feels not just functional, but personal, comforting, and fit for purpose. This new teenage wing is exactly that, a place where young people can have privacy, dignity, and comfort at a time when they need it most.
The Challenge Ahead
On the big day, a team of 18 colleagues from our UK offices will gather at Ribblehead in the Yorkshire Dales to take on two of the region’s most iconic peaks:
– Whernside (736m), the highest of the Three Peaks
– Ingleborough (723m), with its dramatic rocky summit and panoramic views
It’s a route of around 15 miles that will take us across viaducts, valleys, and rugged landscapes. Our journey will include a steady climb up Whernside, a steep descent into Chapel-le-Dale, a well-earned refreshment stop, and finally, the tough ascent up Ingleborough before heading back across the moors to finish under the arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct.
It will take about 7–8 hours in total – with plenty of laughs, teamwork, and determination along the way.
